Vintage Hockey Cards for a Cause: Erica’s Generous Donation

Every once in a while, the trading card hobby reminds us that collecting can be about much more than the cards themselves.

Recently, a fellow collector named Erica reached out to Sheppy Cards with an incredibly generous offer. She had a collection of vintage hockey cards that she wanted to donate to our Cards for a Cause program, with the goal of helping us raise additional money for Warrior Canine Connection.

Erica had enjoyed these cards as part of her own collection over the years, including using some of them for through-the-mail autograph requests. Rather than selling the remaining cards or simply letting them sit in storage, she wanted to put them toward something meaningful.

She offered to send the collection to us at no cost so that 100% of the proceeds generated from the cards could benefit Warrior Canine Connection.

We were honored to accept.

10 Special Vintage Hockey Boxes

Erica's donated collection has now been packed into 10 special Cards for a Cause hockey boxes.

Each box contains approximately 200–250 vintage hockey cards packed inside a BCW 300 Count Storage Box. As with all Cards for a Cause boxes, these are meant to be fun assortments for collectors who enjoy sorting through cards, discovering different players and sets, and simply enjoying the hobby.

There are only 10 boxes made from Erica's donated collection, and once they're gone, they're gone.

But the impact of her donation will go much further than the cards themselves.

Now You Can Choose Your Contribution

Erica's donation also seemed like the perfect opportunity to make an improvement to the Cards for a Cause program that we've decided to keep going forward.

Instead of having a single fixed price, you can now choose how much you'd like to contribute when purchasing a Cards for a Cause box:

• $15
• $25
• $50

No matter which amount you select, the box is the same. A $50 contribution doesn't get a better box than a $15 contribution.

The choice simply gives anyone who would like to contribute more to the cause an easy way to do so without having to purchase additional boxes.

Most importantly, 100% of the contribution amount is donated to Warrior Canine Connection.

Sheppy Cards covers the associated donation technology fee so that it is not deducted from the amount designated for the charity.

Donated in Honor of Some Very Special Dogs

Erica asked that her donation be made in honor of several dogs who have clearly meant a great deal to her:

Sandy, Babbs, Gracie, Babbette, Rose, Birdie, Mattie, and Bowie.

Cards for a Cause

Cards for a Cause started with a simple idea: take cards that might otherwise sit unused and turn them into something that can make a difference.

100% of the product price from every Cards for a Cause box is donated to Warrior Canine Connection, an organization that helps veterans through its Mission Based Trauma Recovery program and the training and placement of highly skilled service dogs.

Erica's donation is a perfect example of how the collecting community can become part of that mission, too.
